Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder is a former clandestine church. The building looks like an ordinary canal house. It is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. The 17th century church with an altar, corridors and approximately 150 seats is situated in the attic. After the Protestant Reformation, public church services were banned and this church arose. The church was used for church services for over two hundred years.

Museum Our Lord in the Attic has 5 ratings.
Museum Our Lord in the Attic is a well-preserved 17th-century canal house in Amsterdam that offers visitors a glimpse into Dutch religious history. The museum's main attraction is a hidden Catholic church in the attic, built during a time when Catholic worship was prohibited. Many visitors appreciate the museum's historical significance and the interesting story it tells about religious tolerance and persecution in the Netherlands.
The museum's layout allows guests to explore the house from the ground floor up to the attic church, providing context for daily life in the 17th century along the way. The audio guide, available in multiple languages, is often praised for its informative content and helps visitors understand the historical context.
The attic church itself is considered impressive, with its baroque altar and well-preserved interior. Many visitors find it remarkable how such a large church space was concealed within a residential building. The views of Amsterdam from the upper floors are an added bonus for many.
On the downside, some visitors mention that the stairs can be steep and narrow, which might be challenging for those with mobility issues. Additionally, a few reviewers note that the museum can get crowded during peak times, which may impact the experience.
Overall, Museum Our Lord in the Attic is generally well-regarded for its historical value, unique concept, and the insight it provides into Amsterdam's religious past. It's considered a worthwhile visit for those interested in history, architecture, or religious studies.
The museum was interesting and well organised. Audio guide was free and very informational. Cafe and additional exhibition were closed.

We really loved the museum and the lovely history and story associated with it. It is really amazing to see what people do for their faith. The audio tour was nice and also child friendly. It took about 30 minutes but there was plenty to see!
