Wereldmuseum Amsterdam is housed in an impressive national monument. It was built in 1926 and is located on the Oosterpark. The imposing central Light Hall offers a panoramic view of what the museum has to offer: three permanent exhibitions, multiple temporary exhibitions, and Wereldmuseum Junior. The museum has a colonial history. Colonialism and its impact are therefore important themes within this museum location. But also topics such as global trade, consumption, migration, climate change, and urbanization are important and fitting for a global city like Amsterdam. In the exhibitions and programming, connections are always made between historical context and current, global themes.

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam has 6 ratings.
The Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, located in the heart of the Dutch capital, offers visitors a journey through world cultures and art. The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts from various parts of the world, with a focus on non-Western cultures.
Many visitors appreciate the museum's diverse exhibits, which showcase items from Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The quality and presentation of the artifacts receive positive mentions, with several reviewers noting the interesting and informative displays. The building itself, a historic structure on the banks of the Maas River, adds to the overall experience.
However, some visitors feel that the museum could benefit from more comprehensive explanations and context for the exhibits. A few reviewers mention that some areas of the museum feel somewhat dated or in need of renovation. Additionally, some visitors find the entrance fee a bit steep for the size of the collection.
The museum's temporary exhibitions often receive praise for their engaging themes and presentations. The gift shop is noted as having a good selection of unique items related to the cultures represented in the museum.
While the Wereldmuseum provides an insightful look into various world cultures, it may not be as extensive or as updated as some of Amsterdam's more prominent museums. Nevertheless, for those interested in anthropology and world cultures, it offers a worthwhile experience.
Not much to see really.
In as much as the space is used, it's very ideologically driven woke-content. Too bad, it used to be a rather interesting museum with lots of artefacts on display...
Spend 30 minutes max so not really worth the entrance fee.
