Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam has 5 ratings.
The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is a historic botanical garden located in the heart of Amsterdam. Established in 1638, it's one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. Visitors often appreciate the diverse collection of plants, including rare and exotic species. The garden features several greenhouses, each with its own climate, allowing for the cultivation of plants from various parts of the world. The butterfly greenhouse is a particular highlight for many, offering a chance to see colorful butterflies up close. The garden's compact size makes it easy to explore in a couple of hours, which some visitors find convenient. However, this compact nature can also be seen as a drawback by those expecting a more extensive botanical experience. The garden's café receives mixed reviews, with some praising the peaceful setting and others finding the offerings limited. While many visitors enjoy the educational aspects and the tranquil atmosphere, some feel the entry price is a bit high for the size of the garden. The garden's location in the city center is generally seen as a plus, making it easily accessible. Overall, the Hortus Botanicus offers a pleasant green oasis in the busy city, appealing especially to plant enthusiasts and those looking for a quiet retreat, though it may not meet everyone's expectations in terms of size and variety.

The Hortus Botanicus is a nice oasis of calm in the busy city centre of Amsterdam. It is a little on the small side, but that didn’t really bother me too much. A visit is a good way to spend some time away from the noisy city centre.
I always feel so peaceful after visiting the botanical garden. There is a nice palm house and the cactus area is great too. Would not recommend visiting in the winter though ;)
Werkelijk een prachtige botanische tuin, een absolute aanrader!
