The Royal Palace of Amsterdam is the palace of the royal family where visitors are received. When the palace is not used by the royal family, the building is open to the public. It was built between 1648 and 1665 as a town hall, designed by Jacob van Campen. Several works by famous artists refer to the wealth and power of Amsterdam in the Golden Age. In 1808 the town hall was turned into a palace. Exhibitions are organised twice a year.

Royal Palace of Amsterdam has 3 ratings.
The Royal Palace of Amsterdam, located on Dam Square in the heart of the city, offers visitors a chance to explore Dutch history and royal heritage. Originally built as a city hall in the 17th century, it later became a royal palace and is still used by the Dutch royal family for official functions.
Visitors generally appreciate the palace's grand architecture and ornate interiors. The impressive marble halls, intricate sculptures, and detailed paintings provide insight into the Netherlands' Golden Age. Many reviewers highlight the audio guide, which offers informative explanations about the palace's history and artwork.
The central hall, with its magnificent maps inlaid on the floor, is often mentioned as a standout feature. Tourists also tend to enjoy seeing the former magistrates' court and the throne room.
However, some visitors find the entry fee a bit steep for the experience offered. A few reviewers mention that certain areas of the palace can feel somewhat empty or less engaging. Additionally, as the palace is still used for royal events, it may occasionally be closed to the public, which can disappoint some tourists.
The palace's location in the city center is convenient, but this also means it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons. Some visitors suggest arriving early to avoid long queues.
Overall, the Royal Palace of Amsterdam provides an interesting glimpse into Dutch royal history and architecture. While it may not be the most interactive museum experience, it offers valuable historical context and impressive artworks for those interested in Dutch culture and heritage.
