Stamford is a small city located in Jones County, Texas, United States. Founded in 1900, the city was named after Stamford, Connecticut, and developed as a railroad town along the Texas Central Railroad. The community has historically been centered around agriculture, particularly cotton farming, and maintains its rural Texas character.
The town experienced growth during the early 20th century due to the railroad and agricultural industries. While modest in size, Stamford hosts the Texas Cowboy Reunion, one of the state's oldest rodeos, which has been an important cultural event since 1930, celebrating the area's strong connection to ranching heritage and cowboy culture.
