Nocona is a small city located in Montague County, Texas, United States. The city has a rich leather-working heritage and is particularly known for being the former home of the Nocona Boot Company, which was founded here in 1925.
The town was named after Peta Nocona, a Comanche chief, and was established in the late 19th century when the railroad arrived in the area. While the boot manufacturing industry has since relocated, Nocona maintains its historical connection to the leather industry and Western culture. The city also has historical significance related to the oil boom period in Texas during the early 20th century.
Today, Nocona preserves its small-town character while celebrating its cultural heritage through various historical sites and local traditions.
