Meersburg is a historic town situated on the northern shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The town is known for its two castles: the Old Castle (Alte Burg), which is one of the oldest inhabited castles in Germany dating back to the 7th century, and the New Castle (Neues Schloss), an 18th-century Baroque palace.
The medieval architecture of the town is remarkably well-preserved, with its stepped streets, half-timbered houses, and historic town gates creating a distinctive cultural landscape. The town has a rich cultural heritage connected to literature and art, notably as the final residence of the German poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.
Today, Meersburg combines its historical significance with a vibrant cultural scene, hosting various cultural events throughout the year. The town is also situated in an important wine-growing region, with vineyards that have been cultivated since medieval times.
