Fatu Hiva is the southernmost and most remote inhabited island in the Marquesas Islands, an archipelago that forms part of French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France. Known for its dramatic landscapes and pristine natural beauty, the island features towering cliffs, lush valleys, and the impressive Bay of Virgins (Hanavave Bay), one of the most picturesque bays in the Pacific.

The island maintains strong Polynesian cultural traditions, particularly in its artistic heritage of tapa cloth making and wood carving. With a small population of around 600 inhabitants primarily living in two villages, Omoa and Hanavave, Fatu Hiva preserves much of its traditional way of life while being relatively less touched by modern tourism compared to other French Polynesian islands.
