Comines-Warneton (Dutch: Komen-Waasten) is a municipality located in the Walloon province of Hainaut, Belgium, along the French border. The city straddles the River Lys, which historically played a significant role in the region's textile industry development. This bicultural area, with both French and Dutch influences, has a rich history dating back to medieval times.
During World War I, the town was completely destroyed but was subsequently rebuilt. The region is known for its historical architecture, including the Town Hall and the Saint-Chrysole Church, as well as its cultural heritage linked to the textile industry. The municipality maintains strong cultural ties with its French counterpart, Comines, on the other side of the border.
