Chester-le-Street is a historic market town in County Durham, England, situated on the River Wear.

The town has significant historical importance as the site where the Lindisfarne Gospels were written, following the community's relocation from Holy Island in the 9th century. For over 100 years, it served as the seat of the Bishop of Durham before the cathedral was moved to Durham City. The town's heritage is reflected in St. Mary and St. Cuthbert's Church, which stands on the site of a Roman fort and the former cathedral.

Today, Chester-le-Street combines its historical legacy with modern amenities and is known for its sporting heritage, particularly as the home of Durham County Cricket Club at the Riverside Ground.
