Waupun is a city located in Dodge and Fond du Lac counties in the state of Wisconsin, United States. Known as the "City of Sculpture," Waupun features several notable bronze sculptures throughout its downtown area, created by Clarence Shaler, a local industrialist and patron of the arts.
The city was founded in 1839 by Seward Barnum and has developed from an agricultural community into a small industrial center. The name "Waupun" comes from the Native American name "Waubun," meaning "dawn of day." The city is also recognized for its correctional institutions, including the Waupun State Prison, which has been an important part of the community's history since 1851. Today, Waupun maintains its small-town character while serving as a regional hub for commerce, education, and cultural activities in this part of Wisconsin.
