Villeneuve-lès-Avignon is a historic town located in southern France, directly across the Rhône River from the famous city of Avignon. Founded in the 14th century during the period when the Popes resided in Avignon, the town retains significant medieval and religious heritage.
Notable landmarks include the Fort Saint-André, which crowns Mount Andaon, and the former Carthusian monastery Chartreuse Notre-Dame-du-Val-de-Bénédiction, one of the largest in France. The town developed as a strategic location where cardinals and nobles built their residences during the Avignon Papacy.
