Uncastillo is a historic medieval town located in the province of Zaragoza, in the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. The town's name literally means "one castle" in Spanish, referring to the prominent fortress that overlooks the settlement.
Founded in the 10th century, Uncastillo is known for its exceptional Romanesque architecture and cultural heritage. The town features six remarkable Romanesque churches, with the Church of Santa María being one of the most notable examples. The urban layout of Uncastillo has remained largely unchanged since medieval times, with its narrow streets, stone houses, and traditional Spanish-Aragonese architecture creating an authentic historical atmosphere. The town's rich cultural heritage is reflected in its well-preserved Jewish quarter, Islamic influences, and Christian monuments, making it an important stop along the Romanesque route of Aragon.
