Tongwynlais is a village located in the northern part of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. The village is primarily known for being the home of Castell Coch (Red Castle), a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle built on medieval foundations. This distinctive castle, designed by William Burges for the 3rd Marquess of Bute, is now in the care of Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service.
The village sits at the southern edge of Fforest Fawr and the Taff Gorge, where the River Taff flows through a narrow gap in the hills. The area's natural setting and historical significance make it a notable location for both cultural heritage and outdoor activities.
