Second Mesa is one of three mesas on the Hopi Reservation in northeastern Arizona, representing an important cultural and historical site for the Hopi people. Located approximately 5,700 feet above sea level, Second Mesa is home to three Hopi villages: Mishongnovi, Sipaulovi, and Shungopavi. The area is known for its rich Native American heritage and particularly for its skilled artisans who continue traditional crafts, especially pottery and kachina doll carving.
The mesa has been continuously inhabited since the 12th century, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in North America. The Hopi Cultural Center, situated on Second Mesa, serves as an important institution for preserving and sharing Hopi culture, history, and traditions with visitors.
