Roscigno is a small municipality in the province of Salerno, Campania region, Italy. The town is known for its unique historical site called "Roscigno Vecchia" (Old Roscigno), which has earned it the nickname "Pompeii of the 20th century."
The old village was abandoned in the early 1900s due to landslide risks, creating a fascinating ghost town that remains largely preserved as it was at the time of its abandonment. This open-air museum offers visitors a glimpse into rural Italian life from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its traditional stone houses, narrow streets, and the central Piazza still intact.
The modern town of Roscigno was rebuilt nearby, and while small, it continues to preserve the cultural heritage of the area, including traditional crafts and agricultural practices typical of the Cilento region.
