Nérac is a charming commune located in southwestern France in the Lot-et-Garonne department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This historic town, situated along the Baïse River, is notable for its rich Renaissance heritage, particularly as it was once an important residence of the Kings of Navarre.

The town's most prominent historical feature is the Château de Nérac, which was partially destroyed during the French Revolution but its north wing still stands today. During the 16th century, Nérac flourished as a cultural center under the influence of Marguerite de Navarre and later Henri de Navarre (who would become King Henri IV of France).

The town maintains much of its medieval and Renaissance character through its old town architecture, including half-timbered houses and narrow streets. The local culture is deeply rooted in Gascon traditions, and the area is known for its agricultural heritage, particularly in the production of Armagnac and foie gras.
