The Castle of Nérac was completed under the reign of Jeanne d'Albret, who held her court there. Despite being dismantled during the French Revolution, the north wing of the castle was preserved and classified as a historical monument in 1862. Today, this wing houses the Nérac Museum, which is dedicated to the Albret family and the Renaissance period.
Established in the castle in 1934, the Nérac Museum presents a wide range of archaeological collections. These collections trace the history of the Albret country from prehistory to the Roman conquest. The museum also houses memories of the Albret house and the court of Navarre, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the region's rich history.
