Moose is a small unincorporated community located in Teton County, Wyoming, situated within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park. This quiet settlement serves as one of the primary gateway communities to the park and is home to the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center, which introduces visitors to the natural and cultural heritage of the Teton region. The community is positioned along the Snake River, surrounded by the dramatic backdrop of the Teton Range.
Originally established as a ranching community in the early 20th century, Moose retains much of its historical character through preserved structures like the Chapel of the Transfiguration, a rustic log church built in 1925 that frames the Grand Teton peak through its altar window. The area plays a significant role in preserving and sharing the cultural history of Jackson Hole, from its Native American heritage to its ranching and conservation legacy.
