Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal. It is a port city that lies on seven hills at the mouth of the river Tagus, where the river flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The city is a major economic centre, with a growing financial sector and one of the largest container ports on the Atlantic coast of Europe. Slopes and a few flat areas is the city’s trademark and it features many broad avenues with monumental buildings in a rectangular layout as well as narrow, hilly cramped streets.

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe and is rich in architecture. Various styles such as Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Baroque, Modern and Postmodern constructions can be found all over the city.

There are several big museums in Lisbon, of which the most famous are: the National Museum of Ancient Art, the National Azulejo Museum, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, the National Museum of Costume and Fashion, the National Museum of Natural History and Science, the Museum of the Orient, the Berardo Collection Museum, the Electricity Museum, the National Coach Museum and the Lisbon City Museum.
