The Portuguese navy is famous all over the world and the Lisbon Navy Museum provides its visitors with a thorough insight into it. The Museum is located in the historical Jerónimos Monastery. Even though the museum itself was opened in 1963, its collection dates back to as early as 1863. This was the year when King Luís I of Portugal, as a renowned navigator himself, started to collect various items and artefacts related to the history and development of Portuguese maritime. The exhibition includes various models of ships that will let you explore the evolution of the Portuguese navy, as well as many items associated with navigating.

Lisbon Navy Museum has 1 rating.
The Lisbon Navy Museum offers visitors an informative journey through Portugal's maritime history. Located in the west wing of Jerónimos Monastery, the museum houses a diverse collection of naval artifacts, models, and historical documents. Visitors appreciate the extensive displays of maritime instruments, maps, and ship models that showcase Portugal's naval prowess. The museum's highlight for many is the royal barge, an ornate vessel from the 18th century. While the museum is rich in historical content, some visitors note that the presentation can be somewhat dated and that not all information is available in English. The layout of the museum can be confusing for some, making navigation between exhibits challenging. Despite these minor drawbacks, the museum provides good value for its affordable entry fee and offers a comprehensive look at Portugal's significant naval heritage. It's particularly appealing to those with a keen interest in maritime history or naval technology.
