Germany is a country located in the center of Europe. The capital is Berlin and the country has more than 80 million inhabitants. This makes it one of the largest countries in Europe and one of the largest economies in the world. The country has played a major role in European history with great responsibility in causing the First and Second World War. In the 1940s the country was split into two parts, which were only united again in 1990.

The country is well known for its music. Many famous composers come from Germany, such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach, Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Literature has also been important in the country, with the years around 1800 being the classical period in German literature with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller and a little later also the Brothers Grimm.

Germany is one of the top countries with the most places on the World Heritage list. The country is featured 41 times, with 41 places. The Cologne Cathedral is the most popular landmark in Germany, with the Neuschwanstein Castle and the Frauenkirche in Dresden as second and third and both not on the World Heritage List.
