The collection contains works of the Neoclassical and Romantic movements (by artists such as Friedrich, Schinkel, and Blechen), of the Biedermeier, French Impressionism (such as Manet and Monet) and early Modernism (including von Menzel, Liebermann and Corinth). Highlights of the exhibition include works by Cézanne, Monet, and Manet. It houses one of the largest collections of 19th-century sculptures and paintings in Germany.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The Old National Gallery in Berlin, Germany, is a highly regarded art museum that houses an impressive collection of 19th-century European art. Visitors consistently praise the museum's extensive array of paintings and sculptures, with particular emphasis on German Romantic and Impressionist works. The building itself, a neoclassical structure, is often noted for its architectural beauty and historical significance. Many reviewers appreciate the well-curated exhibitions and the logical layout of the galleries, which allows for a comfortable and enlightening viewing experience. The museum's collection includes notable works by artists such as Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and Adolph Menzel, which are frequently highlighted as standout pieces. While most visitors find the museum engaging and well-worth the visit, some mention that it can get crowded during peak times, potentially impacting the viewing experience. A few reviewers also note that more extensive English translations for some exhibits would be beneficial for international visitors. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Old National Gallery is generally considered a valuable cultural institution that offers a comprehensive look at 19th-century European art, particularly German art of that period.
