Fort Apache is a historic military post located in eastern Arizona on what is now the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Established in 1870 as Camp Apache, it served as a U.S. Army base during the Apache Wars and played a significant role in the American frontier history. The fort was strategically positioned to maintain peace and monitor the Western Apache tribes in the region.
Today, the site includes several preserved historic buildings and structures that tell the story of military life in the American Southwest, as well as the complex relationships between the U.S. government and Native American peoples. The Fort Apache Historic Park, operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe, offers visitors insight into both military history and Apache cultural heritage through its various preserved structures and educational programs.
