Cluny is a small town in eastern France, renowned for its significant historical and cultural heritage. The town is most famous for being the site of the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny, founded in 910 CE, which was once the center of the largest monastic order in Western Europe.

At its height during the Middle Ages, the Abbey of Cluny was considered one of the most important religious centers in Europe, second only to Rome. Although much of the original abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, the remaining structures and architectural elements continue to provide insights into medieval religious architecture and monastic life.

Today, Cluny maintains its historical character while serving as an important cultural and educational center, home to an engineering school and various cultural institutions that preserve and present its rich heritage.
