Buckfastleigh is a small market town situated on the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England. The town has a rich industrial heritage, particularly in wool and textile production, with several historic mills along the River Dart that played a significant role in its development.
The town is perhaps best known for the nearby Buckfast Abbey, a working Benedictine monastery founded in 1018 and rebuilt in the early 20th century. The local area features interesting geological formations, including limestone caves at Buckfastleigh Caves, which have yielded important archaeological findings.
The town maintains its historic character through its medieval church ruins and traditional architecture, while also serving as a gateway for exploring the natural beauty of Dartmoor.
