Boscoreale is an ancient town located in the Campania region of Italy, situated at the northern foot of Mount Vesuvius, near the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The town is particularly notable for its archaeological significance, having been buried along with its neighbors during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.
The area was known in Roman times for its numerous villas rusticae, which were agricultural estates that produced wine and other crops. One of the most significant discoveries in Boscoreale was the Villa Regina, a perfectly preserved Roman farm villa that provides valuable insights into ancient Roman agricultural practices and daily life. The archaeological findings from this area, including impressive frescoes and a famous treasure of Roman silver objects (now mostly housed in the Louvre), have contributed significantly to our understanding of Roman civilization and culture in the 1st century CE.
