Batchelor is a small town located in the Northern Territory of Australia, approximately 98 kilometers south of Darwin. Originally established in the 1930s as a mining town, it served as an important air base during World War II. The town takes its name from Lee Batchelor, who was Minister for the Northern Territory in the early 1900s.
Today, Batchelor is known as the gateway to Litchfield National Park, one of the Territory's most popular natural attractions. The town has developed into an educational center, hosting the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, which plays a significant role in Indigenous education and cultural preservation. The local area showcases the region's rich Aboriginal heritage and natural beauty, characteristic of the Top End's tropical savanna landscape.
