Badin is a small town located in Stanly County, North Carolina, United States. The town was established in the early 20th century as a company town by the French aluminum company Alcoa (Aluminum Company of America). The town's development is closely tied to its industrial heritage, particularly aluminum production, which began in 1917.
Badin Lake, created by damming the Yadkin River to provide power for the aluminum smelting operations, is now a significant recreational asset for the community. The town retains much of its original architecture from the early 1900s, including notable examples of industrial and residential buildings that reflect its unique history as a planned community.
While the aluminum plant ceased operations in 2007, Badin maintains its historical significance as one of North Carolina's distinctive industrial heritage sites. The town's cultural landscape is shaped by this industrial past, with various historic structures and sites that tell the story of early 20th-century industrial development in the American South.
