Amt Neuhaus is a municipality located in the district of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony, Germany. The area has a unique historical significance as it was part of East Germany (GDR) until German reunification, and in 1993 it was transferred from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Lower Saxony - a rare post-reunification border change.
The municipality lies along the Elbe River and is characterized by its natural landscapes, including wetlands and riverside meadows that are part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve "Niedersächsische Elbtalaue" (Lower Saxonian Elbe Valley). The region maintains a rural character and preserves elements of traditional North German culture, though its cultural institutions are relatively modest in scale reflecting its rural setting.
