The Seehundstation Nationalpark-Haus in the Norden district of Norddeich is a unique institution in Lower Saxony. It is the only state-recognized care station for marine mammals in the region. This makes it a special place for visitors interested in marine life and conservation efforts.
Each year, the Seehundstation Nationalpark-Haus takes care of between 80 and 180 orphaned seals, as well as grey seals. These animals are nurtured back to health and then returned to their natural habitat in the North Sea. Some of them are released on the Othelloplate on the eastern shore of Norderney. This is a fascinating process that visitors can learn about during their visit.
The Seehundstation Nationalpark-Haus has three main areas of focus: the rearing and protection of seals, research into seals, and public relations. Visitors can learn about the life cycle of seals, the research being conducted to understand and protect them, and the outreach efforts to educate the public about these marine mammals.
The Seehundstation Nationalpark-Haus welcomes more than 250,000 visitors each year. These visitors are provided with information about seals and their habitats. This makes the station a popular and informative destination for those interested in marine life and conservation.
