The Prague Zoo opened in 1931 and occupies around 60 hectares where it is home to around 5,000 animals from over 650 different species. The zoo is especially famous for their contributions to saving Przewalski's horse. The part of Zoo along the banks of the Vltava River is flat, but a large part of Zoo Prague is hilly. The flat part includes the residences of primates, birds of prey, water birds, cats and gavials. The hilly park area is home to ungulates, as well as themed places such as the Indonesian Jungle, Africa Near and a place for hippos and Asian elephants. The Africa Savanna is located outside the Prague Zoo.

Prague Zoo has 2 ratings.
Prague Zoo is consistently ranked as one of the best zoos in Europe, and for good reason. Located in the Troja district of Prague, this expansive zoo offers visitors an engaging and educational experience with a diverse collection of animals from around the world.
The zoo is known for its successful breeding programs, particularly for endangered species like Przewalski's horses and Komodo dragons. Visitors often praise the spacious, well-designed enclosures that provide animals with natural-looking habitats. The African savanna exhibit, with its herds of giraffes and zebras, is a particular highlight.
One of the zoo's strengths is its commitment to conservation and education. Informative displays and interactive exhibits help visitors learn about wildlife and environmental issues. The children's zoo and petting farm are popular with families, offering hands-on experiences for younger visitors.
The zoo's layout takes advantage of its hilly terrain, providing scenic views and creating distinct zones that represent different world regions. While this adds to the charm, it can make navigation challenging for some visitors, especially those with mobility issues. However, a chairlift and mini-train are available to help with transportation around the zoo.
Food options receive mixed reviews, with some visitors finding them overpriced or limited in variety. It's often recommended to bring your own snacks or picnic.
The zoo continues to improve and expand its facilities. Recent additions, such as the Pavilion of Penguins and the Valley of the Elephants, have been well-received by visitors.
Overall, Prague Zoo offers a high-quality, educational, and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages, making it a standout attraction in the city.
This is one of the biggest zoos in Europe and really worth a visit on a sunny day when you're in Prague! Especially when you have (small) kids this place is recommended. The zoo has a large variety of animals and is easily reached by public transport. Planning in advance what you want to see and how you're going to do this is recommended!
