The Molen van Sloten – Kuiperijmuseum includes an original ‘poldermolen’ and a museum where visitors learn how barrels are made. The Molen van Sloten is a functioning ‘poldermolen’ and is the only mill in Amsterdam that is daily open to the public. It is a ‘stellingmolen’ with a backside that was rebuilt in 1847. The Kuiperijmuseum features a reconstructed workshop. An audiovisual presentation and pictures illustrate how wooden barrels were made.

Molen van Sloten - Kuiperijmuseum has 1 rating.
The Molen van Sloten - Kuiperijmuseum offers visitors a glimpse into traditional Dutch windmill operations and the craft of barrel-making. Located in Amsterdam, this museum combines two distinct experiences. The windmill section allows guests to explore a functioning mill, learning about its mechanics and historical significance in Dutch water management. Visitors often appreciate the informative guided tours, which explain the mill's workings and its role in Dutch culture.
The Kuiperij (cooperage) museum part focuses on the art of barrel-making, a craft closely tied to Dutch history and trade. This section provides insights into an often-overlooked aspect of industrial heritage. Many visitors find the demonstrations and explanations about barrel-making techniques engaging and educational.
The museum's strengths lie in its hands-on approach and the preservation of traditional crafts. Visitors frequently comment on the enthusiasm and knowledge of the staff, which enhances the overall experience. The combination of the windmill and cooperage creates a diverse and interesting visit.
However, some visitors note that the museum is relatively small and can be fully explored in a short time. This might leave some feeling that the experience is brief for the admission price. Additionally, as it's located outside the city center, some tourists find it less convenient to reach compared to other Amsterdam attractions.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Molen van Sloten - Kuiperijmuseum generally receives positive reviews for its educational value and its role in preserving Dutch cultural heritage. It's particularly appreciated by those interested in industrial history or looking for a less crowded, more authentic Dutch experience away from the busy city center.
