Flossenbürg is renowned for its granite deposits. The town has numerous quarries that can be visited by tourists. These quarries have historical significance as many prisoners from the camps cut the stones used to erect monumental buildings in Nuremberg.

The Flossenbürg Concentration Camp

The Flossenbürg concentration camp holds a significant place in history. From its construction until its destruction in April 1945, nearly 96,000 prisoners passed through the camp. Tragically, 30,000 of these prisoners did not survive. The camp was located 800 meters above sea level in the heart of a forest, far from any major city.
