Womelsdorf is a historic borough located in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1762, the town was named after John Womelsdorf, one of its early settlers. The community played a significant role in early American history, particularly during the colonial and revolutionary periods.
The town's strategic location along the former Berks and Dauphin Turnpike (now US Route 422) made it an important stop for travelers between Reading and Lebanon. Womelsdorf retains much of its historic character through its well-preserved 18th and 19th-century architecture, including several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The nearby Conrad Weiser Homestead, a state historic site, commemorates the life of Conrad Weiser, an important 18th-century German settler who served as an interpreter and diplomat between the Pennsylvania Colony and Native American nations.
