West Orange is a suburban township located in Essex County, New Jersey. The community is particularly notable for its significant connection to inventor Thomas Edison, who lived and worked here from 1886 until his death in 1931.
The township is home to the Thomas Edison National Historical Park, which preserves Edison's laboratory complex and his home, Glenmont Estate. This site served as the location where Edison developed many of his most important inventions, including improvements to phonographs, motion picture cameras, and storage batteries.
Beyond its Edison heritage, West Orange features a blend of residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and natural spaces, including the South Mountain Reservation.
