Vollenhove is a historic city in the Dutch province of Overijssel, situated on what was once the Zuiderzee coast. The city's rich history dates back to the Middle Ages when it was an important administrative center and home to several noble families, earning it the nickname "City of Palaces." Today, Vollenhove is part of the municipality of Steenwijkerland and maintains much of its historical character through its well-preserved architecture, including the ruins of Toutenburg Castle and several historic mansions.
The city is known for its maritime heritage, traditional fishing industry, and the annual Vollenhove City Festival, which celebrates local history and culture. The surrounding area features characteristic Dutch polder landscapes and is close to the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, the largest bog and wetland area in northwestern Europe.
