Villers-Bretonneux is a commune in the Somme department in northern France, located approximately 16 kilometers east of Amiens. The town holds significant historical importance, particularly due to its role during World War I.

In April 1918, it was the site of the first battle between two tank forces in history, and the location where Australian troops helped stop the German advance. The town maintains strong Australian connections through the Australian National Memorial, which commemorates Australian soldiers who died in France during World War I, and the Franco-Australian Museum. The local school, rebuilt with donations from Victorian schoolchildren after the war, still displays the message "Do Not Forget Australia" and maintains cultural ties with Australia to this day.

Beyond its wartime heritage, Villers-Bretonneux is situated in the fertile Somme valley, characterized by its agricultural landscape and traditional Picardy architecture.
