Villanueva de Sigena is a small municipality located in the province of Huesca, in the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. The town is historically significant due to the presence of the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Sigena, founded in the 12th century by Queen Sancha of Castile, wife of Alfonso II of Aragon.

This monastery played an important role in medieval Aragonese history and was declared a National Monument in 1923. The monastery, combining Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements, housed an important collection of medieval art and served as both a religious center and a place of education for daughters of noble families. The surrounding area is characterized by its rural landscape typical of the Monegros region, with agricultural lands and natural steppes.
