Syracuse (Siracusa in Italian) is a historic city located on the southeastern coast of Sicily, Italy. Founded by Greek colonists from Corinth in 734 BC, it developed into one of the most powerful cities of the ancient Mediterranean world. The city's rich cultural heritage spans Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Baroque periods, making it a significant center for historical and artistic exploration.

The ancient core of Syracuse, located on the island of Ortygia, features well-preserved Greek and Roman remains, including the Temple of Apollo and the Cathedral, which was built incorporating a 5th-century BC Greek temple. The archaeological park of Neapolis contains impressive ancient Greek and Roman monuments, including one of the largest Greek theaters in the world.

Today, Syracuse continues to be an important cultural center, combining its archaeological treasures with museums that showcase its diverse historical periods.
