Staithes is a historic fishing village located on the North Yorkshire coast of England. With its narrow cobbled streets and traditional cottages clustered along the coastline, Staithes has maintained much of its original character from its past as a thriving fishing port.
The village has a rich cultural heritage, particularly known for the Staithes Group of Artists, a colony of impressionist artists who were drawn to the village in the late 19th century due to its unique atmosphere and maritime landscape. The village was also the setting where young James Cook worked as a grocer's apprentice before embarking on his maritime career.
Today, Staithes continues to attract artists and visitors interested in its cultural heritage, maritime history, and geological significance, as it sits within the North York Moors National Park and along the Cleveland Way National Trail.
