Squaw Valley, now known as Olympic Valley, is a resort area located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, United States. The valley gained international recognition when it hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics, making it the first Olympic venue in the western United States and only the second in the country at that time.
The area is characterized by its natural alpine setting, situated at an elevation of approximately 6,200 feet (1,890 meters) above sea level. The valley's cultural significance is deeply rooted in both its Native American history and its role in winter sports development. Today, the area continues to be an important center for outdoor recreation and cultural activities, hosting various arts events and festivals throughout the year. The surrounding region features numerous hiking trails and scenic viewpoints that showcase the area's natural heritage.
