Silió is a small village located in the municipality of Molledo, in the autonomous community of Cantabria, northern Spain. The village is situated in a rural area of the Besaya Valley, surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Cantabrian Mountains. The area is known for its well-preserved medieval heritage and traditional Cantabrian architecture.
Silió is particularly notable for hosting "La Vijanera," one of the oldest winter carnivals in Spain, celebrated on the first Sunday of each year. This unique cultural festival, which was recovered in the 1980s after years of prohibition, features masked characters and traditional rituals that represent the struggle between good and evil, making it an important example of Cantabrian cultural heritage.
