Schwarzburg is a historic municipality located in the Thuringian Forest in central Germany. The town is primarily known for its namesake castle, Schwarzburg Castle, which sits prominently on a rocky spur above the Schwarza River valley.
The castle's history dates back to the 12th century and it was the ancestral seat of the House of Schwarzburg, one of Thuringia's most important noble families. The castle complex played a significant role in German history, notably as the location where President Friedrich Ebert signed the Weimar Constitution in 1919. Today, Schwarzburg is part of the larger municipality of Schwarzatal and represents an important cultural heritage site in Thuringia. The surrounding area offers natural beauty with its dense forests and river valleys, typical of the Thuringian Forest landscape.
