Sanger is a city located in Fresno County, California, in the United States. Situated in the fertile San Joaquin Valley, Sanger was founded in 1888 as a station along the Southern Pacific Railroad. The city earned the nickname "The Nation's Christmas Tree City" due to its proximity to the General Grant Grove of giant sequoias in Kings Canyon National Park, where the General Grant Tree was designated as the nation's Christmas Tree in 1926.
Originally an agricultural community, Sanger developed around fruit packing and shipping industries, particularly raisins and other dried fruits. Today, while agriculture remains important to its economy, the city has evolved into a residential community that maintains its small-town character while being part of the greater Fresno metropolitan area.
The local culture reflects both its agricultural heritage and its diverse population, with various community events and festivals throughout the year.
