San Sperate is a small town located in the province of Cagliari on the island of Sardinia, Italy. The town is particularly known for its unique outdoor art initiative that began in the 1960s, earning it the nickname "Paese Museo" (Museum Town). Under the guidance of local artist Pinuccio Sciola, the town's walls were transformed into an open-air gallery featuring numerous murals and sculptures.
The town has maintained its agricultural traditions, being especially known for its peach cultivation, while simultaneously developing into a significant center for contemporary art and culture. Throughout San Sperate, visitors can find sculptures, murals, and sound stones (pietre sonore) - unique musical sculptures created by Sciola that produce sounds when struck.
