Reading is a historic market town and unitary authority in Berkshire, England, situated at the confluence of the River Thames and River Kennet. With a rich history dating back to the 8th century, Reading developed from an Anglo-Saxon settlement into a major trading and manufacturing center during the Medieval period. The town played a significant role in the English Civil War and later became known for its "three Bs": beer (Simonds' Brewery), bulbs (Sutton Seeds), and biscuits (Huntley & Palmers).
Today, Reading is a vibrant commercial and cultural hub, home to the University of Reading and various cultural institutions. The ruins of Reading Abbey, founded in 1121, stand as a testament to the town's medieval heritage, while the Reading Museum houses significant collections relating to the town's history and Roman artifacts from the nearby Silchester settlement.
