Pirna is a historic town situated on the River Elbe in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. Located southeast of Dresden, it serves as the gateway to Saxon Switzerland National Park. The town's well-preserved old town features notable Renaissance and Baroque architecture, with many buildings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries.
The Market Square (Marktplatz) is dominated by the old Town Hall, while the former Dominican monastery now houses the town museum. Pirna gained cultural significance through the works of Italian artist Bernardo Bellotto, who created several detailed views of the town in the 18th century. The town's rich architectural heritage and its position as a cultural center in the region make it an important destination for those interested in Saxon history and art.
