Pawhuska is a historic city located in Osage County, Oklahoma. As the county seat and the capital of the Osage Nation, it holds significant cultural importance for Native American heritage. The city was founded in 1872 and named after the Osage chief Pa-Hu-Ska (White Hair).

The discovery of oil in the early 20th century on Osage land brought considerable wealth to the area, resulting in the construction of many notable buildings that still stand today. The city's downtown district features the largest collection of remaining unaltered buildings from the Oklahoma Territory period, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Osage Nation Museum, established in 1938, is the oldest tribally-owned museum in the United States, offering visitors insights into Osage history and culture. In recent years, Pawhuska has gained additional recognition as the home of The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, which has brought renewed interest in the city's historical and cultural attractions.
