Palmela is a historic town in the Setúbal District of Portugal, situated approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Lisbon. The town is particularly known for its impressive medieval castle, Castelo de Palmela, which sits atop a hill offering panoramic views of the surrounding Arrábida Natural Park and the Sado Estuary.

Originally a Moorish fortress, the castle later became an important Christian stronghold and headquarters of the Military Order of Santiago. The town has preserved much of its cultural heritage, with its historic center featuring traditional Portuguese architecture and narrow streets.

Palmela is also recognized for its wine production, being part of the Península de Setúbal wine region, and maintains strong agricultural traditions. The local cultural scene includes various festivals and events throughout the year, celebrating both historical traditions and contemporary arts.
